CHERISHED ANGELS RELAY FOR LIFE BUNCO FUNDRAISER

Play bunco for $20.00 per person from 1 – 5 p.m. at the David Head Community Center in Lamont. Bring your family and friends, win prizes and meet new people. There will be door prizes and raffle prizes.

ELECTRONIC WASTE RECYCLING FUNDRAISER EVENT

The waste recycling event will be from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the Kern Medical Center located at 1700 Mount Vernon Avenue. They will be accepting any electronic device which has a cord or battery. They cannot accept fluorescent light bulbs or alkaline batteries. All proceeds will benefit KMC Nursing.

FIT FRENZY FREE WORKOUTS AT BOYS & GIRLS CLUB SW

Bring your family and friends and come out ready to get your sweat on. All fitness levels are welcome and a separate workout activity room is available for children. The event is from 9-10:30 a.m.

TEAM IN TRAINING SEASON KICKOFF

Team In Training consists of runners, walkers, cyclists, triathletes and hikers who raise money to help fun breakthrough treatments that help save lives of blood cancer patients. Their kickoff event is from 8-10 a.m. at Action Sports which is located at 9500 Brimhall Road, Suite 400. Team In Training coaches, staff and alumni will be on hand to answer all your questions and show you how you can get involved.

FAMILY DAY AT BUENA VISTA MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY AND SCIENCE

From 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. tickets for 2 adults and up to 6 kids is only $20. Ask for Family Day Special admission price. From 10:30-noon there is a "Just for Kids" event for them to learn about rocks and minerals with mineral-mite instructor Ismael Sanchez. Kids will learn how to cut and polish stones. At 3 p.m. join local geologist Tim Elam for a look at the geology and history of the Sharktooth Hill Bone Bed, a Kern County treasure. There is no extra charge for these events, just the museum admittance fee.

"SUPER BOWL" OF ACADEMIC COMPETITION

A day before the NFL’s biggest day, Kern County’s brightest minds will clash at the annual Academic Decathlon, long referred to as the ‘Super Bowl’ of local scholastic competitions. Defending champs from Stockdale High School will face off against 18 other area high school teams to compete in seven categories — mathematics, economics, science, music, art, and language/literature and "Super Quiz." The highest scoring team will represent the county at the state finals in March in Sacramento. The event will take place at Bakersfield High School and is open to the public at 2 p.m. The awards ceremony will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Harvey Auditorium.

NATIONAL FROZEN YOGURT DAY

Yogurtland Bakersfield is celebrating National Frozen Yogurt Day by giving away free frozen yogurt and toppings with a color-changing collectible spoon. They are located at 10930 Stockdale Highway.
