COLOURS CELEBRATION OF ARTS

COLOURS is a Celebration of the Arts held each February in Shafter.  This is a four-day event at several venues that showcases “Transformed Art” in many forms ranging from Canvas, Sculpture, Film and Stage to Wine, Food and Music.

COLOURS RUN 5K

If you love color, love to run or walk to go the annual COLOURS 5-K FUN RUN. The cost is $35 per participant and includes a COLOURS t-shirt and safety glasses. Proceeds will go towards grants and scholarships for the arts. Details here.

BAKERSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL JAIL AND BAIL

The BHS Drumline and Color Guard are jailing and bailing people to raise money. Once someone is locked up, they will not be released until they raise enough "bail" money. The funds will go toward instruments, uniforms, competition expenses and travel. The lockup begins at 9 a.m. in the BHS Band Room. You can find the "Big House" doors on 14th Street.

FREE "E-WASTE" CLEANUP

The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce is hosting a cleanup of old electronics. They will accept TVs, computers, laptops and household appliances. The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce parking lot on Eye Street. The event is in partnership with Alianza Recycling.

MUSEUM PALEO DIG

Be a paleontologist for a day with the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History. Members can join the museum field guides on an adventure to the quarries near Sharktooth Hill. The cost is $85 for the day. Call the Museum at 661-324-6350 or visit Sharktoothhill.org for the necessary paperwork.

CLINT BLACK IN CONCERT

Country legend Clint Black is performing at the Fox Theater. The singer-songwriter has recorded more than 100 songs. The acoustic show starts at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Fox Theater Box Office.

CHINA LAKE CAR SHOW

The Sidewinder Motor Club out of the Naval Air Weapons Station at China Lake is hosting a car and coffee event. Their "motor grounds" event will be held in the parking lot off Triangle Drive next to Beanster's Expresso in Ridgecrest. They are inviting everyone to come show off their rides and talk horsepower and torque.

GOLDEN STATE FARMERS MARKET

Locally-grown fruits and vegetables are available at a variety of farmers markets across the county, like the one on F Street near Golden State Mall. They have a variety of farm fresh jams, baked goods, and hand-made crafts. It runs from 8 a.m. to noon. This time of year, asparagus is nearly ready and spring fruits are coming in.

RIVETER HONORED AT MINTER FIELD

The Minter Field Air Museum is honoring a local "Rosie the Riveter." Elinor Otto is the guest of honor at the annual Founder's Day Banquet. Otto worked as a riveter on aircrafts built during WWII. She still works on planes to this day. The dinner will be at the Hodel's Country Dining on Knudsen Drive starting at 6 p.m. The dinner costs $30 a person.

CONDORS ALUMNI GAME

Former Condors players Sean Venedam and Chris Kushneriuk will return to the ice in the Condors Alumni Game as part of the 10th annual Hockey-thon. The game takes place at 5 p.m. prior to the Condors home game at 7 p.m.

LEAGUE OF DREAMS BASEBALL REGISTRATION

The League of Dreams is a non-profit adaptive sports league for children ages 5 to 22 with special needs and/or disabilities. "Try-outs" are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fruitvale Norris Park. Each athlete must attend the try-outs to have their abilities assessed to ensure proper team placement.

KERN COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES OPEN HOUSE

The Kern County Animal Services is hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their new shelter location, 3951 Fruitvale Avenue in Bakersfield. Special reduced adoption fees will be in effect for the open house at the new location as well as the Mojave and Lake Isabella locations.

KEEPERS OF THE KERN RIVER CLEAN UP

Keepers of the Kern will be cleaning up after Whiskey Flat Days has left the upper river needing some attention. They will meet at Halfway Campground just north of River Kern at 10 a.m. Bring some water, yourself, friends, family, whoever and a smile on your face. SHOP 'TILL YOU DROP

Vendors are gathered at the Four Points Sheraton for shopping, photos and fun. The event starts at 11:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.

7TH ANNUAL READ ACROSS BAKERSFIELD

The Block Party Pre-show event is right outside the Fox Theater for photos with The Cat in The Hat, face painting, a book walk, games, music and much

more at 1 p.m.! Then rock the house inside The Fox Theater with dancing, singing, celebrity readers and a movie showing of the classic, "The Indian in the Cupboard" at 2:30 p.m.

BAKERSFIELD ADULT BASEBALL LEAGUE

The adult baseball league is hitting the diamond at Sam Lynn Ballpark. The first game starts at 1 p.m.

HOME SHOW

The Home Show is at the Kern County Fairgrounds. There are hundreds of vendors for landscaping, remodeling, solar panels and more. The show is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8. Kids 12 and under are free.
