BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - 'What's Happening' Kern County? Here's a list of fun events happening in Bakersfield and Kern County on Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2.

SPORTSMEN'S SHOW

If you're a fan of the outdoors, the 37th Annual Central Valley Sportsmen's Boat RV & Outdoor Show is happening this weekend at the Kern County Fairgrounds. You'll find everything from a car show to a kids trout pond. Tickets are $10 for adults, kids ages 6-12 are $5. You can get $2 off your admission with a canned food donation.

SAND DRAG RACES

Sand drag races are taking place at the outdoor show in the Belle Terrace parking lot of the fairgrounds starting at 10 a.m. Pit passes are $8 and if you want to race fees range from $25 to $65.

DC's RV CENTER SO-CAL NATIONAL TRACTOR & TRUCK PULLS

The events are at the Grandstand, gates open at 4 p.m. and the action starts at 5 p.m. General admission tickets are $10, box seats are $15. Kids ages 6-12 are $5.

LOW COST RABIES VACCINE AND LICENSING EVENT

The city of Bakersfield Animal Control Division is hosting a low cost rabies vaccine and licensing event at Beale Park. If your dog is already licensed, you can get a free microchip implant. The event is from 9 a.m. until noon. Beale Park is located at 500 Oleander Avenue.

FREE SPAY OR NEUTER EVENT 

The Kern Humane Society is giving out free spay and neuter coupons from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. The public can get up to two coupons a month with ID that shows you have a Kern County residence. The Kern Humane Society is located at 2111 Brundage Lane.

CATHEY'S K-9 RESCUE SPAY OR NEUTER FOR DOGS EVENT

Cathey's K-9 Rescue is handing out 100 free vouchers to low-income dog owners at the Petco on Rosedale Hwy. They are asking for proof of low-income such as unemployment, an EBT card or a utility bill.

BUENA VISTA MUSEUM FAMILY DAY

The museum is hosting family day, and $20 will get two adults and up to six kids admission into the museum. There are a number of events planned from a kids program on astronomy and constellations to a program on "Kern County's Red Rock Canyon" with Geologist Tim Elam. The museum is located at 2018 Chester Avenue in downtown Bakersfield.

"WIZARD OF OZ" IN 3D

The Maya Cinemas on California Avenue is showing the 1939 film that was remastered and converted to 3D last year. The show starts at 7 and tickets are $8.

67TH ANNUAL KERN COUNTY HONOR MUSIC FESTIVAL

The event will take place at the Rabobank Theater, and hundreds of middle school and junior high school musicians will take the stage starting at 7 p.m. The event is free.

"SUNSET BOULEVARD"

You can enjoy dinner and a showing of "Sunset Boulevard" at the Stars Dinner Theater. Doors open at 6, dinner is at 6:30 and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices depend on if you have dinner or are just watching the show.

"WHEN IN ROME" BARBECUE AND SHOW

The Black Gold Players are celebrating their 15th anniversary with the musical melodrama "When In Rome" at the Women's Club of Bakersfield located on 18th Street. Tickets are $20. The show starts at 7 p.m. and their barbecue dinner starts at 5:30 p.m.

"THE LEGEND OF THE WASCO KID"

You can enjoy a performance of "The Legend Of the Wasco Kid" at the Gaslight Melodrama Theater and Music Hall at 7 p.m. Tickets are $23 for adults and $12 for kids 12 and under. The Gaslight Melodrama Theater is located at 12748 Jomani Drive in northwest Bakersfield.
