Wind ignites embers, garage damaged in Bakersfield

No one was inside building

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Outlying communities are not the only ones being threatened by the  dry, hot condition, according to officials.

On May 2, at about 9:30 a.m., fire crews went to a fire in the backyard of a home in the Oleander area.

Officials said the family had a fire going in an oil drum last night and thought they put it out.

The family believes the windy conditions ignited some embers that were still smoldering.

The fire damaged a detached garage that had been converted into a living space.

No one was inside at the time of the fire, according to officials.
