BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A woman found dead in her burning garage was killed by strangulation, officials said.
Clara Marie Basta, 56, was found dead by Bakersfield Fire crews in her burning home Sept. 7.
Patrick Terrel, 37, of Bakersfield was arrested and accused by police of killing Basta Nov. 14. Terrel is Basta's roommate's son.
Basta's family said Terrel was mad because he though Basta had told his mother to stop giving him money to support his drug habit.
Terrel was arrested on charges of murder, arson, residential burglary and grand theft auto.
Terrel was initially arrest for a probation violation, but investigators said physical evidence and interviews led them to charge him with Basta's death.
