Around 5 p.m. Thursday, July 17, a 28-year-old Bakersfield woman was found unresponsive in her cell at the Central Receiving Facility.
Kern County Sheriff's jail personnel and medical staff performed CPR on Chantel Baker until fire personnel and paramedics arrived.
Baker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kern County Sheriff's Homicide detectives were called to the scene and conducted an investigation.
Authorities say there was no obvious trauma or injuries to the victim and the cause of death is pending an autopsy.
