BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A woman was hit and killed by a car early Sunday morning, east of the Lamont area.

On Dec. 30, at about 4 a.m., 34-year-old Marivel Guerrero was driving south on Comanche Road, near Panama Road at about 60 MPH.

54-year-old Bernice Veronica Hawley was running west on Comanche Drive, when she ran directly in front of the car.

Guerrero attempted to avoid her by turning to the left but was unable to avoid a collision.

Hawley died as a result of her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said Hawley was running in an area with no designated crosswalks or sidewalks.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this accident.

This incident is still under investigation.
