Detectives On Scene of Shooting at Mercado Latino

A security guard is dead and the Kern County Sheriff's Department is looking for a group of Hispanic men they believe carried out the deadly shooting.

Deputies were called out to Mercado Latino in East Bakersfield around 9 p.m. Sunday night.

A security guard from one of the restaurants, identified as Francisco Flores, 34, was shot multiple times.

According to the sheriff's department, Flores asked one of the men to leave a restaurant earlier in the evening because he had become belligerent.

The man left and returned about an hour later with a group of men who then fired at the security guard.

The security guard was armed but it's unknown whether he was able to fire his gun.

The group of suspects took off eastbound from Mercado Latino and have not been caught.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the sheriff's department.
