SEA BRIGHT, N.J. (AP) -
He began the workweek in a playful way, with doughnut in hand on David Letterman's couch. But Chris Christie is taking his weight seriously.
The New Jersey governor is outlining a personal and political plan for addressing his weight on his terms -- in a more concentrated fashion than perhaps ever before. In a flurry of media attention this week, he's facing a political vulnerability in his indisputable quest to emerge as a key leader in the Republican Party.
He's also promising to lose weight in the near future.
This week's focus on his weight is raising new questions about whether this is a fresh attempt to prepare for an eventual presidential run. Christie admits struggling with his size for three decades.
