Jacob "Jack" Lew's possible nomination for U.S. Secretary of the Treasury means a new signature could soon be coming to the dollar bill.

Not that you'll be able to read it.

Lew's signature starts off promising enough, with a soft "J." But what follows are seven loopy scribbles, rendering his signature illegible.

The treasury secretary's signature is emblazoned in the lower right corner of U.S. dollar bills of all denominations.

No word from the White House on whether President Barack Obama asked Lew to clean up his signature before nominating him for the Treasury post -- or if the Senate will make that a condition of his confirmation.

Sources familiar with the process said Obama is choosing Lew because of his wide variety of government and private sector experience. Lew previously led the Office of Management and Budget and oversaw international economic issues at the State Department.

He has played a key role in numerous financial negotiations between the White House and Capitol Hill.

The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to discuss the expected nomination ahead of the president. 

Lew is currently serving as Obama's White House Chief of Staff.
