SACRAMENTO, Calif. - One school in Sacramento has started sending notes home with certain students explaining to families that their children are overweight.
According to this year's state's physical fitness report, almost 30 percent of 5th,7th and 9th graders in the Sacramento County fell into the "high risk" category for body mass index.
Some parents are angered and believe nutrition plans should be left to doctors. They have even started referring to the letters as 'fat letter'.
Last week Massachusetts decided to stop sending the letters home because of concerns over bullying and privacy.
There are still some parents that hope California will continue to send the letters home because they say other parents are not as involved with their children's physical activities.
