Sheriff's Deputy Hits, Kills 2 People Crossing Street

Two people were killed when a Kern County sheriff's deputy struck them with his patrol car, said the California Highway Patrol.The crash happened 7:30 p.m. Friday at Norris Road and Diane Drive.Sgt. Kenny Hagerman said Deputy Swearengin the deputy was driving westbound on Norris Road in route to a call when he hit two pedestrians pushing a mini motorcycle across the street.Daniel Hiler, 24 and Chrystal Jolley, 30, died as a result of their injuries.The CHP is investigating the crash.
