SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The search has resumed for three hikers who vanished over the weekend while climbing a peak in the San Bernardino Mountains, where snow showers are expected at high elevations.
Authorities say 40 searchers, some on horseback, along with a dog and a helicopter, are searching trailheads Tuesday in the Big Bear area for Ryan Shankles, David Yoder and Miguel De La Torre.
The men set out on Sunday, intending a day hike to the top of Mount San Gorgonio, the highest peak in Southern California at around 11,500 feet.
A fourth hiker who turned back reported them missing. A search through Monday failed to find them.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department says the men are experienced hikers who carried food and water.
