MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. - Authorities have identified a man whose decomposed body was found in a fertilizer pile at a Southern California park. But they don't know how he died.
City News Service says authorities identify the man as 21-year-old Mario Herrera of Long Beach. He was reported missing on July 10, a day before his plastic-wrapped body was found atop a heap of fertilizer near a baseball diamond at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach.
Investigators believe Herrera may have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped at the park. An autopsy failed to determine the cause of his death pending drug test results.
Herrera's mother, Martha Vergara, tells KNBC-TV that her son was the father of a toddler and had no enemies or gang ties.
