FRESNO, Calif. - A Central California man accused of murdering his wife has been declared competent to stand trial.
The Fresno Bee reports (http://bit.ly/17oALLw ) a judge ruled Monday that 35-year-old Keith Beyer is able to assist in his own defense.
The judge made the decision after hearing from two psychiatrists who evaluated Beyer recently. The ruling means criminal proceedings against Beyer can continue.
In November Beyer confessed to the killing of 41-year-old Sandra Beyer and demanded the death penalty.
Beyer was charged with murder after police found his wife's body inside the couple's Sanger home.
Keith Beyer is also facing charges of sexually abusing a minor. According to court records, he committed several sex acts with a young relative the day before and the day of his wife's death.
Beyer's next court hearing is June 13.
