Los Angeles police kill gunman in fight, search churchgoers

LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles police killed a man during a gunfight and arrested two people after emptying a nearby church.

City News Service says two officers were in an unmarked car when a man with a gun opened fire on them at around 9 p.m. Tuesday on Pico Boulevard.

The officers killed the man, whose name wasn't released.

Lt. Jeffrey Pailet says the officers weren't in uniform but they were wearing badges.

Pailet says a nearby church service was interrupted after an officer thought he saw the muzzle flash of a gun and gang members were seen running inside.

Dozens of people were ordered from the church with their hands up. Pailet says one man was arrested for carrying a loaded gun and a woman for carrying ammunition.
