SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -

San Jose police have arrested a woman in the fatal stabbing of a 69-year-old man who was missing for a month before his body was found inside his cluttered apartment -- overlooked by relatives, neighbors and police.

Officials say Stanley Jacobson's granddaughter discovered the corpse Thursday under a pile of bedding, which officers had photographed two weeks earlier when they searched the home in the Hilltop Manor retirement community.

Police arrested 46-year-old Regina Butler shortly after the body was found. Neighbors describe her as the girlfriend of Jacobson, who suffered from dementia.

Police say the victim's granddaughter and neighbors had visited the apartment numerous times since he went missing, but the pile of bedding was big enough to mask the decomposing body's odor.
