Nearly 800,000 homeowners may not receive refunds in fire prevention fee

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A Sacramento judge has ruled that nearly 800,000 homeowner who failed to send in the proper paper work with their fire prevention fee check will not qualify for a refund.
According to the judge, even if the fire prevention fee is considered illegal, those homeowners who did not send in the correct information will not receive the $150 refund.
The judge also ruled that a legal challenge to the fire fee could proceed as a class-action lawsuit.
