SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) -

The family of a Santa Barbara television news anchor who went missing this week says she is now being treated for a medical problem.

KEYT-TV anchor Paula Lopez's family reported her missing Wednesday morning and an extensive sheriff's search was launched. The 48-year-old Lopez returned home nearly eight hours later.

The family had refused to explain the episode, saying it was a private matter.

A family statement released on Thursday says they were alarmed because Lopez was experiencing a medical condition that made her unable to communicate with the family.

The Ventura County Star obtained the statement and says Lopez is receiving medical care.

   There are no other details.

Lopez is married to Superior Court Judge Frank Ochoa and she has three children.
