OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -

Authorities say that an Oakland police officer is wounded following an exchange of gunfire with a suspect.

Police Department spokeswoman Johnna Watson says the officer is hospitalized, but the wound isn't life-threatening.

The shooting occurred Friday afternoon as two officers responded to a traffic accident.

Watson says the officers heard shooting nearby and as they went to investigate, a suspect shot an officer and fled.

Despite the injury, both officers pursued and captured the suspect, who wasn't injured even though one of the officers fired.

No more information was released.
