PASADENA, Calif. (AP) -

An Episcopal church in Southern California says it's gotten hate mail because it is hosting a Muslim group's annual convention next weekend.

All Saint's Church in Pasadena is holding a news conference Thursday to publicize what it calls the "hateful" emails it's received since word got out that it will host the annual convention for the Muslim Public Affairs Council.

MPAC president Salam Al-Marayati says he asked All Saints to host the convention to foster interfaith understanding.

The Rev. Edwin J. Bacon Jr. says he has received "vile, mean-spirited emails" but church officials say none have contained overt threats.

The Institute on Religion and Democracy, a conservative Christian group, published an online criticism of the plan last week.

MPAC expects up to 1,000 people at its 12th annual convention.
