SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Assembly Leader Connie Conway, R-Tulare, released a statement today regarding the election of Assemblywoman Toni Atkins, D-San Diego, as the next Speaker of the State Assembly.
23ABC got a hold of the full statement, and it reads as follows:
I congratulate Toni Atkins for winning the support of the majority of the State Assembly with her election today as the next Assembly Speaker. Though we hold different political views, she and I have had a very cordial and productive working relationship as the leaders of our respective caucuses. I stand ready to work with her to find common ground on the significant issues facing Californians as she transitions into her new role as Speaker.
With a new era of leadership on the horizon, another is beginning to sunset as my friend John A. Pérez prepares to step down as Assembly Speaker. While we have engaged in many legislative and political battles over the past three-and-a-half years, we have always done so respectfully, and I believe in a manner worthy of our responsibilities as the leaders of the People’s House.
