LOS ANGELES (AP) -

A more than seven-hour standoff has ended at an East Los Angeles home where an armed man was thought to be holed up after an argument with his mother.

The Sheriff's Department got a call from a woman at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday saying her adult son was despondent and fired a weapon inside the home. No one was hurt.

A special weapons team surrounded the home for hours while deputies tried to coax the man outside.

At about 8:30 a.m., tear gas was lobbed into the home and flames broke out. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the smoky blaze.

Deputies searched home and Sgt. T.J. Smith tells KTTV-TV there was no one inside.

The man apparently slipped out before deputies surrounded the house.
