The driver of a vacuum truck is lucky to be alive after his vehicle exploded at an oil processing plant in McKittrick Tuesday night.Kern County firefighters responded to the Aera oil processing facility near Highway 33 and Lost Hills Road after reports of a fire just after 5 p.m.An Aera Oil employee, Marvin St. Pierre, says the driver of the vacuum truck quickly evacuated and managed to escape safely."He said he smelled some kind of flammable fluid... heard an explosion, evacuated his truck... cleared the area and he saw flames," Pierre said.About 20 firefighters were able to control the blaze in under two hours.Hazardous materials response teams and Environmental Health also responded to the situation.The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
