SALEM, Ore. - Oregon Governor, John Kitzhaber, signed a bill Wednesday that will allow immigrants living in Oregon, without legal permission, to get a driver's license.
The bill was signed on the Capitol steps during a May Day immigration rally.
Thousands of supporters came out to the event and cheered their support.
The restricted driver's license will not be allowed to be used to vote, board a plane or buy a firearm. They will be marked "Driver's Card" to distinguish it from a standard Oregon license.
Supporters say the move will make the roads safer, opponents say it will lure more people to come to Oregon illegally.
