SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Talk about a HUGE jump. The POWERBALL jackpot has now been increased to an estimated $300 million for Saturday’s draw. We were at $290 million just a few moments ago.
This means the estimated cash option for Saturday’s draw increases substantially, too, to $172.7 million. The retailer who sells the jackpot-winning ticket will receive a bonus of $1 million, which is the largest bonus a retailer can receive. In case you were wondering, the largest Lottery jackpot ever won was a MEGA Millions jackpot on March 30, 2012. The jackpot was $656 million with a cash option of $474 million.
The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their ticket, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes. POWERBALL jackpot winners have a full year to claim their prize.
POWERBALL is a multistate game, played in California and 44 other jurisdictions (42 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands).
