KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- People were gathering at a mosque in northern Afghanistan to celebrate a Muslim holiday when a suicide bomber blew himself up in the crowd today.
Officials say the blast killed 36 people and wounded 23. The casualties included police officers and soldiers.
It appeared to be the deadliest suicide attack in recent months.
The attack came even as President Hamid Karzai urged the Taliban to stop killing other Afghans.
