On Thursday, in celebration of National Flag Day, SCJ World Volunteer Association will display the largest hand-signed California Flag and United Nations Flag at Central Park in Bakersfield, CA.
The art-piece flags have been signed by over 15,000 residents, volunteers and world leaders in order to raise awareness in local and global communities for the cause of world peace.
Last year, SCJ World unveiled the largest hand-signed California state flag at the State Capitol building in Sacramento which broadcasted on NBC, CW and ABC. Mayors Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles and Kevin Johnson of Sacramento, U.S. Representative Loretta Sanchez and Senator Lou Correa wrote their messages of hope among the 15,000 residents who also participated.
This year, the United Nations Peace Flag Project is surpassing borders. Thus far, U.S. mayors and Los Angeles consulate generals of Afghanistan, Canada, Croatia, Denmark and Slovenia have signed the flag to send a message of peace to the world. The UN Peace Flag signing will be complete in New York, New York in July, as we plan to present the completed flag to the United Nations Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon.
