The Bakersfield Police Department public information officer Sgt. Mary DeGeare said four men have been arrested in connection with the hazing of several California State University students.

On Saturday, Bakersfield police began an investigation into a report of a felonious assault during fraternity pledge initiations.

The report was initiated through Mercy Hospital when a 25-year-old man was admitted to the hospital as a result of his injuries.

The investigation revealed that between March 28 and April 25, four CSUB students were assaulted multiple times during numerous initiation ceremonies, during which they were beaten and shot at close range with a BB pistol, DeGeare said.

The group members, who claim affiliation to Kappa Alpha Psi, are not sanctioned by CSUB, however they do recruit from the CSUB student population through a club established on campus for that purpose, DeGeare reported.

Four of the group’s members have been arrested.

Ryan Nichols and Deandre Horn, both 22, were arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, torture and conspiracy.

Darlington Agu, 24, and Rickey Joy Jr., 20, were arrested on charges of hazing and conspiracy.

Police are still searching for one additional person for which a warrant has been obtained.

He is identified as Philemon Norris, 22, who is wanted on charges of hazing and conspiracy.
