Flames Top Rangers Again At The Saddledome

POSTED: 10:35 pm PST November 7, 2009

(Sports Network) - Daymond Langkow notched a goal and an assist, and the Calgary Flames continued their home dominance of the New York Rangers with a 3-1 win at Pengrowth Saddledome.

Nigel Dawes, who played for the Rangers for the last three seasons, assisted on all three Calgary goals, as the Flames won for the third straight time against the Rangers and third consecutive time overall. Jarome Iginla and Rene Bourque also scored, while Miikka Kiprusoff made 32 saves in the win.

"When we got pucks behind their defense, we were effective and we were able to sustain some kind of a forecheck," said Flames head coach Brent Sutter.

Dan Girardi scored the only goal for New York, which has lost seven of 10. Stephen Valiquette allowed three goals on only 22 shots to take the loss.

"I thought it was one of our best games of the year," said Rangers head coach John Tortorella. "The difference was Kiprusoff."

New York now has only two wins in its last 17 trips to Calgary.

Langkow got the Flames on the board four minutes into the game with his fourth goal of the season, but the Rangers tied it on Girardi's slap shot with just under three minutes left in the first period.

Only one goal was scored in the second period, and it went to Calgary, as Iginla's wrist shot on the power play at the 16:47 mark put the hosts ahead by one heading into the third period.

The Flames put the game away with 3 1/2 minutes remaining in the third. A nice defensive play by Langkow gave Calgary a 3-on-1 fast break. Some nifty passing ensued, and Bourque fired a slapshot past Valiquette inside the right post for a 3-1 lead.

New York pulled Valiquette in a last-ditch attempt to come back, but was unable to score.

Game Notes

Dawes has six assists on the season...Calgary went 1-for-3 on the power play, while New York went 0-for-3...Bourque, Langkow and Dawes were all a plus-two for the game.
