SHAFTER, Calif. -- Friends and family remembered the life of a local woman who was allegedly shot to death by her husband last week before he turned the gun on himself.

A memorial service was held Wednesday afternoon in Shafter for 38-year-old Andrea Santacruz.

The coroner's report ruled that the death of Andrea Santacruz was a homicide; she died from multiple gun shot wounds.

Her husband, Angel Santacruz, was found dead with a single gunshot wound to his head that was ruled a suicide.

Coworkers said as they prepared to give Andrea a final goodbye, they couldn't get over the shock.

Brian Kibler, former coworker and close friend said, "What has happened is a complete shock to all of us; (Angel was a) family man, we’re all completely shocked."

Both Angel and Andrea worked at Wasco State Prison. Angel was a Captain and Andrea was a corrections officer.

Kibler told ABC23 that no one could have ever imagined that their relationship would end in a murder-suicide.

Kibler told ABC23, "Everything now is going to be speculation; I choose to remember the good times."

Kibler said their honor guard will stand at attention when Andrea is laid to rest tomorrow in Shafter.

Workers from other corrections institutions are said to be coming to pay their respects as well.

Angel's body is said to be laid to rest up north.

Andrea leaves behind a daughter and son.

Angel is survived by another son.
