UPDATED: 9:56 am PST November 5, 2009

Three people are dead following a head-on accident on Highway 46, just west of Wasco.

The California Highway Patrol said the accident happened just before 3 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Highway 46 and Wildwood Road.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla was attempting to pass a vehicle along highway 46, but saw there wasn't enough room to pass, the CHP reported.

The driver went back into their lane but over corrected and lost control.

The Corolla then veered back into the opposite lane and hit head-on with 29-year-old Richard Picanso's vehicle, a Dodge Ram 3500, the CHP reported.

Steven Dub, 19, Kayla Shepard, 19, and Hilary-Kendall Fix, 19, all died at the scene.

Picanso was taken to Kern Medical Center.

This crash comes just days after another crash on highway 46, near Blackwell's Corner, which left 3 adults and an infant dead.

The CHP reported that all occupants of the Corolla were wearing their seat belt.
