DELANO, Calif. -- A woman is in the hospital after she was shot in the back by an intruder.

On Thursday around 11 a.m. on the 2200 block of San Felice Way, Patrol Commander Raul Alvizo with the Delano Police Department said that a woman was seen by nearby residents running down the street bleeding.

When police arrived, they discovered that the woman had been shot in the back by someone attempting to break into her home.

Police said that a man from the upstairs room heard the commotion and came down to see what had happened.

According to the DPD, the intruder fired a couple rounds at the man and then a fight broke out between the man and then intruder.

Police said that the intruder then took off and hid in a nearby toolshed about a block away where police found him.

Both the intruder and woman were taken to Delano Regional Center where they are being treated for their injuries.
