A man is in custody after sheriff's say he lead deputies on a high speed pursuit and ended with him slamming his vehicle into sheriff's units.

Around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, a deputy from the Delano area attempted to stop a vehicle for a vehicle code violation.

Deputies said Jaime Perez, 25 of McFarland, failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit lasted approximately 7 minutes and it reached speeds of 80 miles per hour, the Kern County Sheriff's Department said.

During the pursuit, two unidentified people jumped from the vehicle.

Those two have not been located at this time.

Perez continued driving and lost control of his vehicle and spun out near the intersection of Third Street and Perkins Avenue in the McFarland area, the KCSD said.

As the deputies came around the corner, Perez drove his vehicle towards the deputies and he struck both sheriff's vehicles causing minor damage to the sheriff's units.

Perez's vehicle became disabled and he was taken into custody.

Perez was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, felony evading, resisting arrest, and a parole violation.
