WASCO, Calif. -- The city of Wasco has passed an ordinance aimed at conserving water. City officials said that the new ordinance means that simple chores like watering your yard will only be allowed on certain days of the week."You take the last digit of your address and if it's an odd or even number, then that would correlate with the day of the week," said Director of Public Works Dan Allen.Allen said that Wasco passed the ordinance in an effort to conserve water and comply with governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s policies that mandate statewide conservation for cities.
He said the details are still sketchy, but in the months to come, city officials will let residents know what addresses are assigned to what days of the week to water.City officials said they hope that by next spring the ordinance will be enforced. In the meantime, they will work to inform residents of the changes to come.Allen said once the ordinance is in effect officials will cite violators. Residents will also have the right to report those who don't follow the rules by calling City Hall or filling out a form on the city’s Web site.
