Pilot Walks Away From Helicopter Crash

SHAFTER, Calif. -- A pilot walked away with minor injuries after the helicopter he was piloting crashed in a field.According to the Kern County Fire Department, a crop-dusting helicopter piloted by a 63-year-old man crashed around 9:15 a.m. Friday, at Cherry Avenue and Santa Fe Way just south of Shafter.The pilot said the helicopter had engine troubles and he was forced to make an emergency landing.
The KCFD said the pilot made a hard landing, but was able to set the helicopter down in soft dirt.No fertilizer tanks were compromised.Danny Boyles with PG&E said that the pilot clipped a power line and doesn't know exactly how many customers if any had their power interrupted.Boyles said the outage would have been short as PG&E was able to reroute the power.
