Box Truck Driver Killed After Colliding With Big Rig

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The California Highway Patrol said the driver of a box truck was killed when the box truck he was driving slammed into a turning big rig.Around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, a big rig was traveling westbound on Pond Road and stopped at the intersection of Pond Road and Highway 43, Officer Robert Rodriguez said.Rodriguez said Casimiro Casares, 43, of Washington, the driver of the big rig, needed to make a left turn, but was unable to clear the turn and became stuck.
Moises Vargas Gonzalez, 34, of Wasco, the driver of a box truck traveling northbound on Highway 43 wasn't able to stop and collided with the big rig.Even though it was foggy at the time of the crash, officers said weather was not the cause of this accident.Rodriguez said, "Fog and weather don't cause crashes. Unfortunately it's human error."Gonzalez died as a result of his injuries, but Casares walked away uninjured, Rodriguez said.The CHP said Gonzalez was driving in excess of the posted 55 mph speed limit.
