WASCO, Calif. -- On Wednesday, Kern County Sheriff Deputies from the Wasco Substation conducted a pedestrian crosswalk enforcement operation in the city of Wasco.The operation was conducted in the 500 block of Palm Avenue on the west side of Wasco High School.This operation was initiated after patrol deputies received numerous concerns from Wasco citizens regarding vehicles failing to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.
Concerned for public safety and the welfare of children, deputies from the Wasco Substation developed and implemented operation crosswalk.This operation would target vehicles who fail to stop for pedestrians in marked crosswalks throughout the city of Wasco.The first location picked for this operation was the 500 block of Palm Avenue.The operation was conducted from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.During the operation, deputies stopped and cited 26 drivers for failing to yield for pedestrians in a marked crosswalk.Out of the 26 drivers cited in this operation, three were cited for not having a driver’s license and one was cited for driving on a suspended license.In addition, four vehicles were impounded.
