3 Inmates Charged In Drug Bust In Housing Unit

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Kern County Sheriff's Department have charged three inmates who they say had drugs and various other illegal items within their housing units.Around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, Detentions Deputies at the Lerdo Minimum Facility conducted a search of an inmate housing unit.During the search, the Detentions Deputies said they located approximately 3 grams of suspected methamphetamine, two plastic bags containing useable amounts of suspected heroin, one loaded hypodermic needle containing suspected heroin, one empty hypodermic needle and one stolen otoscope, which is a medical instrument used to examine the interior of the ear.
Combined, the seized narcotics have an estimated street value of $450.Because they are more difficult to obtain in custody, narcotics have a higher value inside the jail, the estimated in-custody value of the narcotics is $1,000, the KCSD said.As a result of the investigation, Gary Wayne Grace, 30, was arrested on charges of possession of narcotic paraphernalia, under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of heroin, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance in a jail.Reynaldo Daniel Abrego, 26, was arrested on charges of possession of narcotic paraphernalia and commission of a crime while in custody.Angel Alcala, 33, was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property.
