7 People Injured In Head-On Crash; 1 Dies

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- An accident on Highway 46 sent seven people to the hospital and one of them has died as a result of his injuries.Around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, the Kern County Fire Department responded to a multiple vehicle accident west of Kecks Road on Hwy. 46.When crews arrived, they said they were faced with a head-on vehicle accident involving two vehicles.
Crews assessed the scene treating seven patients and initiated a med-alert due to the number of patients.Three patients were classified as having severe injuries, one with moderate injuries and three with minor injuries.Two of the patients had to be extricated from a vehicle.Sandy Blake Roberts, 21, from Hollywood, Fla., was the passenger in one of the vehicles and died at Kern Medical Center as a result of his injuries.The remaining people were transported to Bakersfield hospitals by air and ground ambulances.
