FedEx Truck Catches Fire On Freeway, Closes I-5

LOST HILLS, Calif. -- A FedEx cargo vehicle caught fire Friday afternoon, forcing the closure of I-5 northbound.Around 1:15 p.m. on Friday, the Kern County Fire Department received a call reporting that a cargo vehicle carrying hazardous material had smoke coming from the rear trailer.The vehicle was traveling north on Interstate 5 about a mile north of Main Drain, Sean Collins with the KCFD said.
Collins said 18 Kern County Firefighters responded and were assisted by Kern County Environmental Health Department, CHP and a private ambulance company.When crews arrived, they said they were faced with a large FedEx cargo vehicle with white smoke coming from the rear trailer.Fire crews were able to isolate the rear trailer from the main truck. However, they had to wait for a hazardous material clean up crew before opening the trailer.All northbound traffic was diverted off I-5.
