Officer Is Recovering In Hospital After Inmate Hits Her In The Face

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A female correctional officer is in the hospital after being assaulted by a male inmate at the North State Prison, said prison officials.The attack happened around 8:14 a.m. Saturday morning as inmates were leaving their cells for their morning meal, said officials.Officials said inmate Russ Loc, 37, approached the 43-year-old correctional officer and began hitting her in the face, then knocked her down to the ground.
The inmate then tried to get on top of the officer but responding officers were able to stop him, said officials.The officer suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Delano Regional Medical Center where she is listed in stable condition, according to officials.Loc has been housed at the prison since March 8, 2010, after being convicted in Los Angeles County for forced oral copulation resulting in great bodily injury, according to the press release. Loc has been placed in confinement while the attack is being investigated.
