Kidnapping and Sexual Assault Update

POSTED: 10:21 am PST February 2, 2009
UPDATED: 11:13 am PST February 2, 2009

The BPD is still looking for a kidnapping and sexual assault suspect.

The kidnapping and sexual assault occurred Thursday afternoon in broad daylight outside the Babies R Us on Rosedale Highway.

The victim, an adult female, 31 years old, had just finished putting her 11 month old child into the vehicle when the suspect confronted her.

He pulled out a firearm and ordered her into the vehicle.

The man also got into the vehicle and instructed the woman to drive to the Kern Schools ATM kiosk at Rosedale Hwy and Calloway Drive where he told her to withdraw money.

The man remained in the vehicle with the woman's child while the victim made the withdrawal.

The woman reentered the vehicle and was directed by the man to the parking lot of Fruitvale Jr. High School. There the man sexually assaulted the woman and then fled from the vehicle on foot.

The woman drove to a friend’s business in the 10000 block of Rosedale Hwy where she reported the incident.

Police said the woman had just finished shopping and put her baby in the car when the man approached.

The BPD say there are some basic things you can do to protect yourself;

  • When you are shopping beware of other car parked by yours.
  • Have your keys in your hand, don't fumble through you purse looking for them in the parking lot.
  • Before you enter your car look inside to make sure nobody else is inside and when you get in your car lock the door right away.

The BPD released a sketch of the man who is described as a black male in his 30s six feet tall, 200 pounds with a muscular build.

Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is urged to contact police at 327-7111.
