Oildale Residents Concerned Over Proposed Development Plan

Bakersfield Speedway Too Loud For Single Family Homes Development

POSTED: 6:31 pm PDT May 18, 2009
UPDATED: 10:25 am PDT May 19, 2009

Some residents in Oildale are concerned about a proposed development plan adjacent to their homes.

The proposed project is in north Oildale across from the Bakersfield Speedway.

Tuesday the board of supervisors will consider a zone change that would allow an industrial, commercial and multifamily use for that property.

The developer purchased the property several years ago and wanted to build single-family homes when the housing market was hot, but now according to county officials single family home in that location will not work because of the speedway.

The developer now wants to build some storage facilities close to the speedway and eventually an 128 unit apartment complex.

Resident said they don't want a large apartment complex next to their homes. Supervisors will take up the issue during the afternoon board meeting Tuesday.
