Long Awaited Sidewalk Improvement Project Begun

McCray Street Now Safer

Walking down one street in Oildale now is a little safer thanks to money that comes from the Safe Routes To School grant.

Third District Supervisor Mike Maggard requested the money from the state last year so the quality of life in Oildale could be improved and residents feel safer as they walk down the street.

McCray Street between Norris Road and China Grade Loop is loaded with foot traffic everyday and up to now there was no clear way place to walk. pedestrians either walked on the street or on somebody's lawn.

It's been just about a year since the $367,000 was approved by the California Department of Transportation, but crews are now hard at work putting in new sidewalks with wheelchair ramps, curbs and gutters.

The project is expected to be finished by the end of July and crews ask that you slow down while on McCray Street because pedestrians will have to walk on the street until the sidewalks are completed.
