State Reported More Than Just Spanking Took Place At Day Care

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The case of a reported spanking at a northwest daycare center has been investigated by the state.That investigation has substantiated those claims and that's not all it found.The Community Church of Life Services Daycare Center on Rosedale Highway was investigated after a parent claimed her child was spanked by a staff member.
The Department of Social Services found those claims to be accurate, but investigators also found other problems with the day care center.On one occasion, according to investigators, a child was found with a cigarette in their mouth that belonged to someone at the school.The school also received a citation for hiring a staff member before the person's background check was complete.The schools director told ABC23 that the school is handling the wrongdoing head-on.The director said the teacher that spanked the child was terminated and other staff members will go through an intense training to stay in accordance with the state law.The school's CEO and board members will be having a mandatory meeting with state officials to discuss these citations and make sure the school stays in compliance.
