BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Students from across Kern County participated Wednesday morning in a national prayer gathering. The event is called, “See You at the Pole," and it brings in students around the flag pole for prayer every fourth Wednesday in September. The program is entirely led by students and is meant to inspire and encourage other students.
Jayse Anspach, Liberty High School Bible Club president said, “Prayer does change things and we believe that.”About 100 students from LHS sacrificed their time Wednesday morning and meet before school to raise their hands in worship.A local christian radio station, KAXL, came out in support of this event bringing refreshments and conducting live interviews. In past years, some of these rallies were contested by various groups but the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that the rallies are part of a long tradition of free speech that is guaranteed by the constitution. The annual gathering began in 1990 with a handful of Christian students. It continues to grow by word of mouth, announcements at youth rallies and churches. Now, collectively, over 2 million students in the U.S. participate.
