OILDALE, Calif. -- 9-year-old Brianna Nusbaum won first place for her pizza creation at this year 's Save Mart Kids Cook-Off.Take a little bit of music history and add a bit of chocolate for flavor and you got Nusbaum's recipe that took home best in show at the cook-off.Home and style expert and Food Network personality Sandra Lee hosted the contest and presented awards at the Save Mart Kids Cook-Off at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, Calif.
The kids cook-off consisted of 30 children, ages 9 through 13, who submitted recipes in three categories: Appetizers/Side Dishes, Entrees and Desserts.Nusbaum said she loves being creative in the kitchen and reading cookbooks for ideas, but the inspiration for her pizza pie came from a different source."Elvis is my favorite singer and I wanted to make a pizza named after him, we called it the Elvis Banana Peanut Butter Pizza Dream Pie," said Nusbaum. Her creation used brownie mix as a substitute for the pizza dough, peanut butter as the sauce and bananas instead of pepperoni and she topped it off with a bit of chocolate. The grand prize was a trip for four to Heavenly Valley Ski Resort in Lake Tahoe, Calif.Nusbaum will also will be invited to make a guest appearance on "Hey Kids, Let's Cook!", an award-winning children's television show on PBS where her pizza creation will be highlighted.Modesto, Calif.-based Save Mart operates more than 240 stores throughout Northern California and Northern Nevada under the Save Mart, S-Mart Foods, Lucky, and FoodMaxx banners.Nusbaum's family said they are proud of her and added that the experience of winning was humbling.
