BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Deputies from the Kern County Sheriff's Office responded to 2706 North Chester Avenue to check the welfare of a 60-year-old man.

The man had not been seen or heard from for the last few days, according to deputies.

Deputies contacted the apartment manager who provided them with a key to the apartment.

The man was found dead and had some bruising on him that appeared suspicious.

Homicide detectives were notified and began an investigation.

Detectives examined the scene, and through their investigation, determined that the death appeared to be natural.

There were no signs of trauma or foul play. An autopsy is pending.
