Parents Don't Want To Lose Tutor Program
Educators Want To Get Grant Funding To Save Program

OILDALE, Calif. -- Some after-school programs offered by the Standard School District are in jeopardy of shutting down. Funding for the highly praised Tutor Time will run out in December at the Standard Elementary location and the rest of the funding will run out in June next year at the Child Guidance Clinic location.The partnership between the Child Guidance Clinic and the school district has seen tremendous success scholastically. Students between first and eighth grade can receive free tutoring sessions after school. Educators said programs like this are highly needed in areas like Oildale.The tutor time after-school program and been helping local families for 10 years. State funding for the homework club began to teeter last year. That's when a grant from the Kern Community Foundation, the Weingart Fund and the Henrietta Weill Memorial, through the Child Guidance Clinic stepped in to save the day.
The program has been a great tool for parents and educators. Both said that students who are involved in the program have excelled in school. Program coordinators are hoping to secure new funding soon and are in need of $10,000 to operate through the end of the school year.Coordinators said the North Bakersfield After-School Tutoring Program is a nonprofit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
